Hi! My name is Carl Bertolami, a licensed massage therapist since 2002 and the owner of Milford Massage and Bodywork.
My journey of becoming a massage therapist started in my late teens when I sustained a repetitive movement injury. The injury stemmed from practicing guitar for several hours each day and rehearsing with my band. I developed what is commonly known as “tendonitis” in my wrist, which made playing the guitar very painful. Having this happen to me in this early phase of my life was pretty traumatic, considering the dedication I had to become a professional musician with plans to attend Berklee College of Music.
As a result of this injury, I sought out a variety of different treatments, from traditional orthopedics and physical therapy to chiropractic, neuromuscular therapy, and acupuncture. During this time I also learned of Traditional Chinese Medicine and herbal medicine. I focused deeply on my self-care and stretching, and became passionate about learning the most effective ways to preventing this type of injury from ever happening again. I learned how to heal my own body, and every chance I got I would share these different strategies with other musicians.
A few years later, a friend recommended I attend an introductory workshop at the Muscular Therapy Institute in Cambridge-and this is where it all came full circle for me. I knew at this time that I needed to follow this as a career path. This is when I enrolled at the Muscular Therapy Institute (MTI) in Cambridge, MA, and completed an intensive 900-hour program that focused on the Benjamin System of Muscular Therapy and Bodywork.
It is important for me to help each client find relief from pain so they can continue doing what they love. Please contact me to learn more and schedule an appointment. I look forward to meeting you and working together soon!
